Queen’s School of Business joins Forté Foundation
Consortium of leading corporations and top business schools dedicated to women and leadership
April 27, 2007
Through its series of educational and networking events, support of relevant research, scholarship and intern opportunities, and extensive online resources, Forté Foundation provides an international infrastructure to equip women in business school with the resources and tools needed to achieve success throughout their careers.
“A survey of Canadian women in senior positions revealed that half believe there are multiple barriers to female enrolment in MBA programs,” said Shannon Goodspeed, Director, Queen’s MBA. “Canadian business schools need to do a better job at helping remove those perceived barriers, and our partnership with the Forté Foundation is just one of many steps we’re taking at Queen’s School of Business to do so. The Forté Foundation reaches thousands of women around the world with its message on ‘The MBA Value Proposition’ and we are thrilled to be an active member.”
Forté’s membership is comprised of 26 leading multinational corporations, such as Eli Lilly, Goldman, Sachs & Co., IBM and Kraft Foods, 27 top international business schools, including Harvard, INSEAD and London Business School, and the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC).
Forté Fellowships
As part of this exclusive membership, sponsor schools award a minimum of two Forté Fellowships to each MBA class for leadership skills, diversity in demographics, educational and workplace experiences, and a demonstrated commitment to the success of women and girls. Queen’s School of Business has just named its first Forté Fellows: Sarah Milton and Yan Chen for the Class of 2007 and Rupa Gudiseva and Sanyu Kiruluta have been selected for the incoming Class of 2008.
In addition to the financial benefit, Forté Fellows have exclusive access to select Forté events and online resources, mentoring by on-campus Forté representatives, and participation in an international network of fellow MBA students. To date, Forté’s Fellowship program has provided support to more than 250 MBA candidates with fellowships totaling over $10.5 million.
“We are pleased to welcome Queen’s School of Business to Forté — and to extend the reach of our foundation into Canada,” said Elissa Ellis, Executive Director of Forté Foundation. “With our international base of women executives and clients, the Forté Foundation is committed to our mission to increase the number of women in business leadership positions.”
Forté Events
Each year Forté Foundation offers several educational and networking events for members, such as the Forté Career Labs and Forte Forums. These panel discussions provide a forum for women to share real-life experiences about business education and the multitude of careers options available to women with business degrees.
Forté Foundation was established in 2001 in direct response to Women and the MBA: Gateway to Opportunity, a landmark study that highlighted gender imbalance at leading business schools compared with medical or law schools.
“With the help of the Forté Foundation, we are laying the groundwork for an international MBA alumnae network to help Queen’s MBA students navigate business careers throughout their lives,” said Goodspeed.
