Professor Ken Wong named to AMA’s Marketing Hall of Legends
It was announced today that Ken Wong, Professor of Marketing at Queen’s School of Business, was named to the American Marketing Association Hall of Legends, in the Mentor category. Mentors are those who inspire the pursuit of excellence in Canadian marketing. Professor Wong was this year’s sole inductee in this category.

The Marketing Hall of Legends was created by the American Marketing Association Toronto chapter and Mandrake to “enshrine Canada’s marketing industry and its stars for posterity.”

The 2006 inductees were selected in four categories: visionaries, builders, mentors and enablers.

Visionaries, or entrepreneurs who have created enduring, valuable and iconic Canadian brands include Harry Rosen, executive chairman, Harry Rosen; David and Ed Mirvish, co-producers, Mirvish Productions; and Mike Lazaridis, president & co-CEO, and Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO, Research In Motion, creators of the Blackberry.

Builders are those who have built and enhanced existing brands, while increasing the competitive nature of their respective organizations. This year’s inductees are Donald Triggs, president and CEO, Vincor International; and John Cassaday, president and CEO, Corus Entertainment.

Enablers, those who provide excellent brand-building expertise, include Claude Lessard, chairman and CEO, and François Duffar, vice-chairman and president, Cossette Communication Group; and Don Watt, founder and former chairman of Watt International, a brand strategy and retail design consultancy. Watt is now chairman and CEO of DW+Partners.

About 600 names were submitted for consideration. An executive judging panel brought the list down to 38 in the visionaries and enablers categories, then a group of 700 top-level industry members voted for the winners. The executive judging panel picked the winners in the mentors and builders categories.

This year’s recipients will be honoured at Marketing Hall of Legend’s annual gala on January 26 at The Granite Club in Toronto.
