The contest elicited a great response with 258 individual nominations sent in by students and faculty from across the province. Upon review of these submissions by BIG IDEAS producers, the best 30 were selected according to clarity & coherence, energy & performance, and confidence & authority.
Professor Dimnik’s nomination came as a pleasant surprise when one of our videoconferencing staff requested his permission to send in a tape of one of his classes to TVOntario. This request came as a result of a nomination made to BIG IDEAS by several of Professor Dimnik’s Executive MBA students.
“It’s interesting that most of the participants in this contest would have had to make taped submissions,” says Professor Dimnik., “but because I actually teach via videoconferencing, our tape was already made”
Professor Dimnik feels his ten year background in media/television give him a definite advantage when teaching on video, allowing him to combine his previous work experience with his current teaching career.
BIG IDEAS is now continuing their best lecturer contest, narrowing the field of 30 down to the top 10, billing this as ‘TV with a high IQ’. The top 10 contestants selected by the jury will be asked to give special lectures which will be taped by TVO and will air on BIG IDEAS in the fall of 2005.
