Business students to attend international forum on CSR
May 04, 2005
2005-05-04 - Queen’s School of Business is part of an elite team of 12 business schools and 10 corporations from around the world selected to work on the Global Responsibility Initiative (GRI). The GRI team, headed up by the United Nations Global Compact and European Foundation for Management Development, is developing a plan to provide global leadership to mainstream Corporate Social Responsibility best practices into businesses and business schools. The GRI team has been working together since October 2004 and will present their recommendations to the United Nations General Assembly in September. (For more details on the GRI, see the QSB Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility website.
Before its final September 2005 presentation, the GRI team will receive feedback on a draft of their work from various international constituents in Brussels, Belgium in June at the annual European Foundation for Management Development meeting.
As part of this initiative, the Queen's School of Business “Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility” held a contest to select student representatives to attend the meeting in Brussels, to provide a strong student voice on this initiative.
The winners of the contest are Beth Sills (EMBA 2005), and Katie Elder (Commerce 2006). Beth holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, and has 15 years of environmental management experience in consulting, industry, and government. In addition, Beth has traveled extensively throughout the developing world. Katie Elder is on the executive of the Students for Corporate Social Responsibility club and has been actively involved in implementing CSR activities within Queen's School of Business.
