Mel Goodes Donation
October 21, 1998
1998-10-21 - Mel Goodes, CEO and President of Warner-Lambert Company made a surprise multi-million dollar personal donation to Queen's School of Business today. Mr. Goodes made the announcement while visiting the school to dedicate 2 state-of-the-art classrooms. The classrooms were made possible from a previous million dollar pledge -the second million dollar pledge- by Warner-Lambert Company.
The multi-million dollar donation is to create a Centre for the Management of Knowledge-Based Enterprises. "This is a center to meet the challenges of finding knowledge, distributing it, and transferring it to the economic and social sectors," Mel Goodes told an ecstatic audience. "It is not enough to simply honor knowledge, or even to expand it. Our greatest obligation is to share it."
Goodes, a Commerce '57 Queen's graduate told the audience that this was a very emotional experience for him. "It's a chance to give back to the school that has given so much to me," he said. "I can devote more time and resources to help those in the next generation gain the kinds of opportunities given to me."
Margot Northey, Dean of Queen's School of Business said that the gift will help the school keep moving to the forefront of technology. "One of our aims is to lead in everything we do and we think this new centre will have a tremendous impact on Queen's and industry as a whole" She said.
