The Queen's Advantage

Any top-tier MBA program can offer you a solid curriculum taught by outstanding faculty. Not surprisingly, Queen’s offers a leading-edge curriculum taught by a faculty consistently ranked as the best in Canada. However, the Queen’s MBA program offers several features that cannot be found in other MBA programs.

Watch the Queen's Advantage

1) Our Team-Based Approach to Learning

Queen's MBA Team

While other MBA programs talk about "teamwork", what they are actually referring to is "group work" - a very different concept. At Queen’s, you are assigned to a team for the core of the program, and a significant portion of your overall grade is derived from teamwork. Team members collaborate on assignments, projects and presentations, drawing on the diverse skills and experience of individual team members.

We believe strongly in our team-based approach because it mirrors today’s progressive workplace. You will leave the program with a thorough understanding of the best practices for team-building and teamwork - well-prepared to be a valuable member of a high-performance team.

  • Learning Teams consist of 6 or 7 students, carefully assembled to maximize diversity of gender, experience and cultural background - reflecting the reality of the workplace.
  • Each Learning Team is guided by a professional Team Coach. For the duration of the program, they will monitor your team’s effectiveness and provide regular feedback and guidance that is pivotal to the learning process.
  • Our team approach provides ample opportunity to develop and practice team and leadership skills while in the program.
  • Each team is provided with a dedicated team room in Goodes Hall, including a personal work station for each team member.

2) Personal Coaching

Today, all over the world, people at all levels of management are using Personal Coaches to help them achieve their full potential. At Queen’s, we have made this a critical piece of your learning experience. The impact of your personal Coaching experience can be immeasurable, and will affect many aspects of your life - both professionally and personally. You will return to the workplace with a better understanding of yourself and your strengths. No other MBA program offers this unique and valuable opportunity.

Queen's MBA Team
  • You are able to choose your Personal Coach from our roster of Coaches. We believe this enables you to develop a good rapport and chemistry with your Coach. Our professionally-trained and accredited coaches bring a wealth of work, life and coaching experience to the process.
  • Personal Coaching can take many directions, and you are empowered to influence the direction you wish to take. Many students choose to focus on identifying and leveraging their individual strengths, and our Coaches have several sophisticated assessment tools at their disposal to assist you. Other students choose to focus on mitigating perceived weaknesses, or working on a specific interpersonal issue.
  • At Queen’s, coaching is an integral part of our culture. While in the program, you will have the guidance and support of a Personal Coach, a Team Coach, a Career Coach and a Fitness & Lifestyle Coach.

3) International Diversity

Typically, international students make up between 40% and 50% of our class. Over the past four years, we have welcomed students from more than 40 countries. This level of diversity enriches the learning and networking environment.

4) Fit to LeadTM

Fit to LeadTM is an optional program that focuses on mental, emotional and physical wellness. Topics covered include personal reflection, goal-setting, fitness, healthy eating, and achieving work/life balance.

  • You will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of individual and group activities.
  • You can work with a Fitness and Lifestyle Coach who will help you design a personal fitness plan.
  • You will receive valuable tips and resources for creating balance in your life.

5) Experiential Learning

Perhaps one of the best examples of experiential learning at Queen’s is the Tri-Colour Venture Fund – Canada’s first student-advised venture capital fund. This initiative gives Queen’s MBA students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing a real multi-million dollar fund.  Learn more about the Tri-Colour Venture Fund
