Earn Your CMA / PMP Designation With Your MBA

Fast-Track to the CMA Designation

The Certified Management Accountant designation is internationally recognized as the leading financial management designation for executives. Through a special partnership between Queen's and CMA Ontario, Queen's MBA graduates have the opportunity to earn the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.

Participants interested in pursuing this Queen's MBA-CMA Combined Program may apply to CMA Ontario at the beginning of the Queen's MBA program. Application forms will be available from the MBA office.

MBA-CMA Program Requirements

In the fall immediately following their spring convocation, Queen's MBA-CMA Combined Program students will commence their CMA Accelerated Program Studies and complete the Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Taxation components of this program. Students must achieve an overall 60% on these components in order to be eligible to qualify for the CMA designation.

During the spring following graduation, MBA-CMA Combined Program students are required to successfully complete the CMA Board Report component of the Strategic Leadership Program. Exemptions are granted for all other components of the Strategic Leadership Program.

MBA-CMA Combined Program students are then required to write and pass the CMA Entrance Examination and the CMA Case Examination. Students are encouraged to write these two examinations immediately following completion of the CMA Accelerated Program components, but may delay this requirement for up to 17 months following graduation from the Queen's MBA program.

MBA-CMA candidates are required to demonstrate a minimum of 24 months of practical work experience in order to qualify for the CMA designation. Of the 24 months required, a minimum of six months must be at the managerial level.

Program Fee

Fees for the Queen’s MBA-CMA Combined Program are $5,000. This represents a substantial saving as compared to pursuing the CMA designation in the traditional manner. The payment timetable is as follows: $300 upon acceptance into the combined program (typically in August), $2,200 four months after MBA graduation, and $2,300 twelve months after MBA graduation.

Earn the Project Management Professional Designation

Students in Queen’s MBA have the option of pursuing a Project Management Professional designation while in the program. The Project Management Institute (PMI), founded in 1969, is the world’s leading not-for-profit project management association, with 125,000 members worldwide. PMI is a leader in the development of professional standards and the expansion of the body of knowledge for the project management profession.

Students in our program may choose to take the optional credit course in Project Management. Through our partnership with PMI, upon completion of this course, students with project work experience need only write and pass the Project Management Institute’s exam to receive the PMP designation.
