Application Requirements

We are seeking exceptionally motivated candidates who have demonstrated academic excellence; candidates who possess an international outlook; are accepting of and sensitive to other cultures; possess strong communication skills; have exhibited leadership, or leadership potential; have displayed integrity and a strong sense of ethics; possess superior communication and interpersonal skills; and enjoy working in a team environment.

Successful candidates must also meet the following minimum requirements:

Academic Requirements

Successful candidates typically present one of the following educational profiles:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business from an accredited university with an average of B+ (approximately equivalent to 75%) or better in the final two years of their degree.
  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited university with an average of B+ (approximately equivalent to 75%) or better in the final two years of their degree. At a minimum, these candidates must have successfully completed introductory business courses in the following areas: financial accounting, macroeconomics, introduction to finance, and introduction to marketing

GMAT

Candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree in business and who have achieved a result of B+ (approximately equivalent to 75%) or better in the final two years of their degree are not required to write the GMAT.

Candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in business but who have not achieved a result of B+ or better in the final two years of their degree may be required to write the GMAT and achieve a minimum overall score of 550.

Candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-business background will be required to write the GMAT.

Professional Experience

As the Queen’s Master of International Business is a pre-experience program, candidates are not required to possess work experience. Candidates with up to – but not in excess of - two years work experience will be considered for admission.

International Applicants

An international applicant is defined as someone who is not a Canadian citizen or is not a permanent resident of Canada. International candidates are subject to the same admission criteria as domestic candidates. As such, please review the admissions requirements.

In addition to meeting the admission requirements, international candidates must apply for a Study Permit from the Canadian government in order to enter Canada to enroll in this program.

Depending on your country of citizenship, you may also be required to have a Temporary Resident Visa to enter Canada. You should begin the application process as soon as you receive your offer of admission from Queen’s.

Please Note: Acceptance into Queen’s MIB does not guarantee nor imply acceptance of your application for a study permit. You should not take any final steps, such as moving to Canada, purchasing plane tickets, or seeking accommodations in Kingston, until your Study Permit is approved.

Language Requirements

Queen’s Master of International Business is an intensive program. Each student must be able to synthesize large amounts of verbal and written information efficiently; review, comprehend and critique abundant readings; command leadership of their team when required; engage in classroom discussions and presentations; and author team assignments. Consequently, all candidates must possess exceptional English facility and communication skill level in order to be competitive for admission.

Candidates whose native language is not English, and whose undergraduate university studies were taken in a language other than English must achieve a satisfactory score on one of the accepted tests of facility in English.

Candidates whose native language is not English but who have earned a university degree from a degree program in which English was the language of instruction will be exempt from this requirement.

Computer-Based Test: A minimum score of 250 and a minimum Essay Rating score of 5.0
Paper-Based Test: A minimum score of 600 and a Test of Written English (TWE) with a minimum score of 5.0
Internet-based test: A minimum score of 100 and a minimum score of 4 for writing

Candidates who plan to take TOEFL must obtain a copy of the Bulletin of Information form, and register through the agency responsible for the country or region in which they reside. To ensure that the results are forwarded directly to Queen’s, the code number 0949 (Dept. 02) must be inserted on the request for the Official Score Report.

Michigan English Language Assessment Battery

Requirements Details
A minimum score of 90 is required.

Please note that a test of facility in English is a firm requirement and admission decisions cannot be made until an acceptable score has been reported.
