Montréal Queen's Business Club invites you and your guest(s) to join fellow alumni at a reception and presentation featuring QSB Professor Pamela Murphy on "How Do Fraudsters Sleep at Night? Rationalizing Fraudulent Behaviour".

Dr. Murphy will discuss the role rationalization plays in committing fraud. She examines this phenomenon within the framework of the "fraud triangle". The fraud triangle asserts that fraud is highly likely to occur if three things are present: 1) opportunity, 2) motivation, and 3) attitude / rationalization. She uses examples of highly publicized frauds in the United States, as well as her research, to argue the power rationalization can have in allowing otherwise ethical people to commit major financial crimes.
Dr. Murphy joined Queen's School of Business in the accounting area in 2007 after receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She brings with her decades of experience in the corporate world as an auditor, controller, marketing manager (including many years with Bank of Montreal), and consultant. She also holds a Masters from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and an accounting degree from the University of Minnesota. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois.
